Day 1 – Train to Liverpool Lime St. | Mersey River Cruise | Group Lunch | Group Accommodation Check-in | Private Guided Walking Tour
We start off the weekend aboard Liverpool’s world-famous Mersey Ferry. The 50 minute River Explorer Cruise offers stunning views of Liverpool's skyline and the River Mersey. Learn how the ferries played their part in the First World War and hear more about Liverpool’s maritime history from the expert recorded commentary, which plays throughout the cruise. Group Lunch (incl.) after River Mersey Cruise. NB we cannot guarantee that any of their dishes are allergen free or fulfil dietary requirements due to possible cross contamination during their production (Incl. Group Packed Lunches during the weekend).
Following our group lunch, a fully guided Liverpool City walking tour where you will learn about the history, rich heritage & culture of this famous city, and have a closer look at the iconic landmarks. No visit to Liverpool is complete without meeting the Fab Four! You will also hear some fascinating stores about The Beatles and musical history of the city.
Ample free time after the walking tour, to explore the night life Liverpool City has to offer! Optional Cavern Club Entry Included.
Day 2 – Lake District Day Trip
After we wave farewell to the spectacular City of Liverpool for the day, we hit the road to the legendary land of The Lake District in a 2-hour partially-narrated journey, navigating a spectacular section of the M6 motorway, passing Preston and Lancaster. On a clear day you’ll see the famous British “backbone” called The Pennines.
We will visit the following Lake District destinations (subject to changes, weather conditions):
Bowness | Cumbria’s most popular sprawling town developed after the opening of the railway line from Oxenholme and Kendal to Windermere in 1847. Home to a glorious lakeside boat launch. Here you we hop on the Lake Windermere Lake Cruise (group tickets incl.) for a trip of a lifetime!
Ambleside | Largely Victorian and home to the Roman Galava Fort – ex-residence to 500 Roman soldiers. Ambleside grew rapidly when the ferry terminal opened in 1845. St Mary’s Church (1854) was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The 17th Century Bridge House over Stock Ghyll is one of the most photographed scenes in Lakeland.
Little & Great Langdale’s | The Langdales are home to some of the most dramatic and diverse scenery in the whole of Cumbria (if not Britain!) hosting some of the most photogenic scenery around. Weather permitting we’ll drive the “loop” of “Little Switzerland” and even attempt to walk a summit, working up an appetite for lunch (excl. at your own cost) or more scenery!
Grasmere | Most of the buildings date from the 19th or early 20th Century, though the Church dates from the 13th Century. William Worsdworth, who died in 1850, and his wife Mary, who died 9 years later, have a tombstone in the churchyard of St Oswald’s Church, one of the most visited literary shrines in the world.
Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread Shop | This tiny, aroma-flooded quaint shop with happy costumed staff is neatly tucked away at the corner of the churchyard. You’ll browse through, soak up the history, and then sample this most wonderful delicacy before ladling yourself down with bags of the stuff to distribute proudly to your friends (if it lasts that long)! Make sure you stock up on gingerbread before we return back to YHA Albert Dock, to re-explore Liverpool City on our last night.
Day 3 – Group Accommodation Check-out | Train back to London
After breakfast we walk back to Liverpool Lime St. station for the return train to London.
